Overview and Customer’s Challenge
One of our long-term partners, a waste oil refinery in Wichita, Kan., was struggling to maintain its process control system with both day-to-day maintenance operations as well as capital project expansions. Staff needed more efficient and accessible systems that they could realistically oversee.
TEC Systems Group’s Solution
We developed a streamlined support structure to address these challenges. This structure included 24-hour support and services for the refinery’s facility process control systems, such as:
- Field devices
- Process controller and networking
- Operator interface
- Historian data
- Process operation servers
We also provided updated process control and electrical schematic design, control panel fabrication, as well as control systems equipment and instrumentation specifications for small and large capital projects.
To help minimize risk and increase the speed of support for both troubleshooting and changes to the plant’s operations, we developed a plant system model of the facility’s process control system. This model allows for testing and validation of changes before they are implemented within the facility, either on-site or remotely, through a secure VPN connection.
Customer’s Outcome
The improved process control system allowed plant staff to increase their efficiency and productivity. They could now assess, maintain and troubleshoot their maintenance operations around the clock and from anywhere within the facility or off-site. In addition, plant staff and leadership were able to tackle facility expansions more collaboratively through improved designs, schematics, fabrication, and specs.
